3 Top Tips for Surviving Mothers Day After Your Mum Has Passed Away

If you've lost your mum, whether it be recently or decades ago, Mothers Day can be one of the hardest days in the calendar to get through. It can feel pretty isolating but you're far from alone.

Everyone reacts differently to grief, and I'm not about to patronise you by assuming that you're all feeling exactly the same. Each and every one of you are on your own individual journey. However that doesn't mean that there isn't a wealth of information out there that might help you. I asked some of the best people I knew about their strategies for dealing with Mothers Day after their mums had passed. Here are the top three tips.

1. BREATH - Slowly and deeply. Inhale to a count of four, hold for a count of 2, exhale for a count of 6. Repeat this 10 times and focus on nothing but your breath. As other thoughts start to creep into your conscious return your focus to your breathing.

2.
BE AWARE of your feelings and don't try to suppress them. When it comes to grief everyone is on their own journey, and no two journeys are alike. Whatever feelings are coming up are perfectly normal and part of the process.
Go with it, scream, cry, shout, laugh do what YOU need to do but just don't keep those feelings locked inside.

3. START A GRIEF JOURNAL - Writing down your thoughts and feelings can be as good as talking them over. You could also try writing a letter or Mothers Day card to your mum.

I do hope that you find these tips useful. Please leave a comment to let me know if you used them and how they worked out for you. Or share your own tips with us.

I send information like this out on a regular basis so simply fill in your details opposite and click submit to have the information sent directly to your inbox,
