  • Breakages due to dropping
  • Excessive water exposure

Visual Differences In Beads

Just as the person or pet that the ashes come from was wonderful and unique, so too are each of the beads I make. Although every effort is made to ensure your beads look like those in the pictures on this website no two beads will ever be quite the same. When adding an organic substance (the ash) to the molten glass certain reactions may occur that could make your bead look different to the pictured beads.

Bubbles - Bubbles may or may not appear in your beads, this is a result of CO2 escaping from the ash when it is heated. Not all ashes produce CO2 so not all beads will have them, others seem to produce lots and lots of bubbles.

Colour variation - The colour of a bead can look different for many reasons. Firstly the colour settings on computer monitors can be set differently. The reflective nature of glass mean that the beads will reflect different light (natural, fluorescent ect.) in different ways both in the pictured beads and your own beads. The glass will also reflect the colours of things around it. Finally the inclusion of the ash itself can impact on the final colour of your bead, some beads may appear darker, lighter or even (in the case of lighter coloured beads usually) have a grey hue to them.

Colour Gaps - A band of coloured glass is laid down first to form the base of the bead, whilst this glass is still molten (a consistency similar to that of treacle) it is rolled in the ash, this can cause the glass to 'spread'. When the top coat of clear glass is added to encapsulate the ash  any areas of the bead that have not spread as far will appear as a narrowing in the colour. This is perfectly normal and doesn't affect the quality or strength of the bead.

By placing your order you are understating and agreeing to the possible variations and accept that your beads will be as beautifully unique as the person or pet you wish to remember.
