If you read my last blog post you'll recall that my 'main aim' for 2016 is to invest in myself. We all get so incredibly bogged down with 'life' and can often end up existing rather than living the life we would choose. So this year I'm making a conscious effort to enrich my life in as many ways as I can, documenting and sharing with you all along the way.
So I've started being grateful.
Sounds simple right?
I'll let you into a secret... It is!!
So here's how it works:
Everyday find something to be grateful for, be it big or small. Take 10 minutes each evening to sit and write it down. I've treated myself to a jazzy notebook (stationary is a weakness of mine) which I use as a gratitude diary. Every night I write three things that I'm grateful for and, no matter how bad the day has been, I have always been able to find 3 things.
After a few days I noticed that during the day I'd start to think, 'oh, that can go in my gratitude diary tonight,' in other words I'm subconsciously looking for the positive in situations rather than the negatives that we usually tend to pick up on.
I'm now two weeks in and guess what, it's starting to have a knock on effect on the people around me! A few people have passed comment on how happy and content I seem, some have even started to notice their own negative thoughts when they're around me. But best of all I've noticed a difference, yes I still get stressed, yes things still upset me and yes I still let some things get to me that I really shouldn't. But, on the whole, I'm happier, more relaxed, and so much more optimistic than I've been for a long time.
And that's not all...
Now I've got all these good vibes going on I'm actually attracting more happiness into my life, you know how it goes, you buy a beautiful new dress and the next thing you know you see two other people wearing it and someone on the telly!
So why not give it a go, pop a comment on the bottom of this post telling me what it is you're grateful for! Try it out for a couple of weeks and let me know if you see a difference.
Can you believe we're already over a week into the new year??
I'm going to share some of my plans and aspirations with you for the coming year this week but first I want to take you back to New Years Eve 2014...
Now I'm really not a fan of New Year, historically it's been an awful time, we've have deaths in the family, my first fiance broke off our engagement on New Years Eve and my waters broke 6 weeks early on NYE 2011 which was pretty terrifying... so all in all it's not my favourite celebration.
So for that particular New Years Eve my husband and I decided that we'd stay at home and have a quiet night, we invited a close friend up for a few drinks to see in the new year but as we were all ready on thin ice my husband and I ended up having a huge row and our poor friend made her excuses and left by 10pm! (Sorry Leian if you're reading!).
As the new year dawned we sat talking things over and decided to give it one last shot, although if I'm totally honest with myself I knew then that it wouldn't ever work out the way I wanted it to. I also made the resolution to be debt free by the end of 2015
Summer 2015 came and as predicted things hadn't got any better so I made the decision to leave my husband. I'd made massive headway onto paying off our debts but ended up borrowing even more to move house and start over. At this point I'd more or less given up on the prospect of being able to achieve my goal.
Well excuse my French but I worked my arse off for the last half of 2015 and even surprised myself by doing what I'd set out to do, I ended 2015 debt free and so much happier than I was when it started.
Achieving such a massive goal despite the struggle I had to do it has given me the confidence to set more intentions and goals for this year, here's a few of them:
1. In 2016 I will invest in myself, after all there is only one of me, so it'll probably be the best investment I can ever make!
2. In 2016 I will start to let go of guilt. I'm a terrible worrier and love a good guilt trip but most of the time it's just an unnecessary expense of energy and emotion that would be better focused towards achieving bigger and better things.
3. I will wear matching underwear everyday.
4. I have a big vision in life, I know where I want to 'end up' (for want of a better phrase) 2016 will be the year I put together a map of how to get there and follow it!!
I'd love to hear what resolutions or goals you've made, why not pop them in the comments below?
Happy New Year One And All!
Firstly, I want to start with a thank you, to all my fans, followers, admirers (in the artistic sense) and of course customers. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart, without you all I'd not get the level of fulfillment I get each and ever day that I'm able to sit at my desk or workbench and do this most fantastic 'job'!
As one year ends and another begins it's standard practice for most of us to review and analyse what's passed and plan for what is about to come, and that's what I've been doing over the last couple of weeks.
Over the next couple of weeks I'll post more about my year just gone and the plans, goals and resolutions I'm putting in place for the year to come but for this week I need to get something off my chest as it were.
As those of you that have read some of my previous blog posts will know, I'm a natural worrier, and this has been niggling away at my subconscious through every mince pie, present and cheesy Christmas film.
I've been reviewing my prices. Weighing up how much each bead has actually cost me to make against what I anticipated the costs would be, and i'm afraid it didn't make for much Christmas cheer!
I've seriously underestimated the cost of certain aspects of my business.
Two areas specificaly:
1) Shipping costs. As some of you will recall I wrote a post in November about problems I'd had with a certain courier company. Well I just can't risk such precious cargo not getting to where it needs to be so I had no choice but to move away from said company which has resulted in a considerable price increase for the cost of getting orders safely back to their rightful owners.
2) Marketing. When I first worked out the price I was going to charge I made a guestimate of how much it would cost me to advertise and sell my memorial jewellery. To say I was off the mark is an understatement, the actual costs have worked out at more than 5 TIMES what I budgeted!!
So - Where am I going with all this?
Well the long and short of it is, that at the prices I'm charging this just isn't a sustainable business. So my choices are to either call it a day, which after all the lovely feedback I've had from my existing customers really isn't an option.
Or...Put my prices up, for which I feel terribly guilty!
Now I'm not in this to make a million and retire to some far of land, BUT I do have to be realistic, I have bills to pay and a daughter to feed so I have to earn a living.
So while I'm coming to terms with the guilt and anguish I'm feeling I want to make sure that you're still getting great VALUE!
Firstly, I'm giving you 3 whole weeks to place your orders at the existing prices before the increase comes into force on January 25th 2016.
Secondly I'm offering a payment plan on orders over £150, where you split the cost of your order into three more manageable payments, you can find more details about that here.
And thirdly I'm offering you the chance to visit my studio personally to watch your order being created at no additional cost, get the details here.
So there is it, as always my commitment to you is that i'll do everything I can to ensure a top class, personal service for your loved one or cherished pet from start to finish. I really hope you'll all accept my apologies, make the most of the offers I've made and continue to support me throughout the coming year.
P.S - This is the link to the new pricelist - remember, I'm holding existing prices until midnight on 24th January (2016 - GMT)
